Social Media – a new way to sell more cars?
Social Media is strong in many ways and can do some extraordinary things, like sending messages and pictures from Mars via MarsPhoenix from NASA, raising donations for Haiti earthquake survivors, informe flight passengers wether flights are cancelled due to volcanic eruptions in Iceland or giving information about discounted flights. Car manufacturers use more and more social media like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace and Flickr, not primeraly to sell cars, but defenitely to get connected with social media users on a emotional basis. The audience decides which brands they feel a connection to and interacts with them.

The importance of integrated Search Engine Marketing for the automotive industry in 2010
In my first blog post about the automotive sector I said: ‘...companies still have the opportunity to find one or the other potential customer. The only question is how?’, I have to underline the term ‘find’ and I have to revise the ‘who is finding who process’! What about potential customers who find the right car manufacturer or the right dealer while searching on major search engines? Adding pay-per-click (PPC) to its advertising mix, such as ‘Google Adwords’, brands or dealers can some how reach their major goals ‘hassle free’. A right search engine marketing (SEM) approach should be the key to success.

With the global recession the automotive industry worldwide was faced with severe slump in sales.The crisis of the automotive sector had made itself felt in 2008 and the bottom of it was reached in 2009. World's leading automotive brands tried to sell their products with unprecedented sales campaigns. Even governments were involved in rescue measures to compensate for the huge slump in the automotive sector. In Germany, for example, car owners were scrapping their old cars with the state scrapping premiums to boost weak sales.
