Google PageRank gets an Update

Almost half a year ago Google updated PageRank and the current update is just an update in the Google Toolbar. According to Google, PageRank is one of over 200 topics which are important for SEO, some more and some less.

PageRank, what is it?

Basically PageRank is a performance figure, named by Google’s Co-Founder Larry Page, which evaluates the external link structure of web pages. The quantity of inbound links as well as the PageRank of the pages providing the links is determining the PageRank of a webpage. The PageRank is a numeric value between 1 and 10, where 10 shows the highest relevancy. The most popular websites have a PageRank of 10.
As mentioned above it’s an update in the Google Toolbar, which doesn’t say anything about the webpage’s current PageRank. The real PageRank is not visible fort the user and it’s calculated on a daily basis. This is one of the main criticisms.
Google itself says that people shouldn’t focus on PageRank so much. Many site owners seem to think it’s the most important metric for them to track, which is simply not true. People got used to it and they like to see some kind of figure which is somehow related to a PageRank.
Users who want to check their own PageRank, are able check their PageRank without using Google’s Toolbar. Here are some free tools which are worth to try:
