How to determine keywords for SEO

Finding the right keywords for your content is one of the most important things when we talk about SEO. Because keywords are the connection between your website and your potantial customer, you have to know the search patterns and understand search behaviour of your target group.

How you can find the right keywords?

Even though keywords are very important, not many people know how to find the best combination in order to get the best results. The keyword research is essential for all SEM acitivities, be it for your PPC campaigns or SEO activities. The difference is, with keywords for PPC you can publish broad lists of variations, misspellings and you can test the keywords performance and add/delete keywords whenever you want.

With keywords for SEO you have to do your research more carefully and we would recommend that you already know the performance of the keywords before adding them into your SEO strategy. To determine your best performing keywords we recommend that you analyze your keywords before you start optimizing:

1. Determine the most related keywords to your business. If you sell Mercedes car parts, for example, using that term is going to be important.
2. Determine the traffic of the keywords by how many types people type into a search engine.
3. Determine the most converting keywords. As a Mercedes car parts seller the word Mercedes car parts for sale might be an important keyword for example.

Tools for your keywords research are limited but you can check your Analytics data for example. Check out which keywords drives the most traffic or the highest conversions. If your Analytics account is not providing enough data for keywords you can use some other tools like for example the Google keyword tool, Overture keywords tool, Wordtracker etc. Unfortunately those tools are not always working well enough for Turkish keywords. This is why we recommend to start a test AdWords campaign for a couple of weeks. You can then test keywords and check which keywords are really performing good for your business. Researching and testing is essential for Search Engine Marketing. You will see, the better you choose the right keywords the more successful you will be.
